With temperatures dropping and (perhaps) the promise of snow in the air, the fixings for a steaming mug of rich, toffee-tinged hot chocolate make for an excellent holiday gift.
Combine ½ cup of sugar and 4 ounces each of semisweet chocolate and toffee chips in a food processor. Process until the chips are finely ground. Store the mix in an airtight container for up to a month. To gift, scoop the mix into cellophane bags and tie tightly with colorful ribbon or string. Include a card with the mixing instructions: For one cup of hot chocolate, bring 8 ounces of milk to a boil in a medium pot. Lower the heat and whisk in 1/4 cup of the hot chocolate mix. Whisk over medium heat until the chocolate and toffee bits have melted. Pour into a mug and serve.
This recipe makes about 2 1/4 cups of hot chocolate mix, enough for about 9 8-ounce cups of hot chocolate.
