Use Baking Soda to Clean Pots & Pans

Baking soda to clean potsBaking soda is your secret weapon in getting rid of tough stains on pots and pans. Yes, using baking soda to clean pots and pans is an actual thing! In addition to removing stains, it also helps eliminate any lingering food odors from your cookware.

How to Use Baking Soda to Clean Pots & Pans

Sprinkle a little baking soda onto burnt on food or stains. Rub the soda into the stain. It’s abrasive enough to remove most food and stains without damaging the surface of your pots and pans. For more resistant stains, sprinkle the pan with baking soda then add a little water. Bring the water to a boil for 5 to 10 minutes.

Adding a little white distilled or apple cider vinegar to the mix before boiling will give you an even stronger stain remover. Sprinkle the pot or pan with about a tablespoon of baking soda. Add a cup of water and 1/2 cup of vinegar then  boil the mix for 10 minutes. The food or stain should wipe away easily once cooled.

    • Thanks, Alison! This has kept me from tossing so many pots/pans in the trash with what I thought were stains that would never leave.

  1. Great post indeed. Now I can get rid of the stubborn stains of my pans and other pots. Thank you for sharing a useful and pocket-friendly home remedy.

  2. I think it’s going to work. I almost burned down my house with hummingbird sugar water when the phone rang. When I stepped back out of my office the entire house was covered in smoke and there was a boiling black blob in the kettle. I’ve been scrubbing fir two days. Granted I went overboard on baking powder and vinegar. The water brought it back down to where I could sit it in the stove. I’ll know for sure in 11 minutes but stuff was already coming off before I put it on the stove. WOWZERS! And THANK YOU!!!
