Planning a dinner party can be intimidating, whether it’s a simple celebration for two (Happy Valentine’s Day) or an elaborate spread for a crowd. If you’re planning to cook a special meal for your Valentine, here are a few tips to help you get dinner on the table even if you’ve spent the day at the office.
Plan your menu wisely. Even if you’re an accomplished cook, a dinner party’s probably not the best time to try numerous new recipes. It’s also not the best time to attempt several complicated or labor-intensive recipes. Choose one spectacular dish and surround it with simple, tried-and-true dishes you’re comfortable with.
Be sure not to fill your menu with too many dishes requiring oven time, especially if you only have one oven. Also consider choosing some menu items that can be made ahead, so you’re not scrambling to finish everything at the last minute.
