If you’re searching for a recipe to impress, this is it. A light coating of brown sugar and chili powder turns bacon — already fabulous in its own right — into the star of your breakfast table. It’s perfectly crispy with just the right balance of sweet, salt and spice. Standard chili powder works just fine, it will give you a little kick without the heat, but if you’d like to spice it up a bit try using Pasilla or Ancho chili powder or any chili powder made from ground spicy chilies.
There are two key steps in making this bacon. Lining the baking sheet with foil will save you from hours (I may be exaggerating) of scrubbing in an effort to remove the cement-like bits of cooked sugar that will inevitably stick to the bottom of your pan. Resting the cooked bacon on paper towels is also important. You can only achieve ultimate crispness by allowing any excess oils to drain from the bacon.
Crumble any leftover bacon (who am I kidding, right?) to use as the most delicious bacon bits ever.
|Brown Sugar & Spice Bacon||
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 12 slices bacon
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Mix sugar and chili powder together in a medium bowl, stirring until well-mixed. Add bacon to bowl and toss until bacon is evenly coated on both sides.
- Arrange bacon in a single layer on a sheet tray lined with foil. Bake 12-15 minutes until bacon is gloriously brown. Remove from oven and place bacon on a plate lined with paper towels to allow any excess oil to drain.
