How to Toast Nuts

Toasting nuts gives them a deeper flavor and a nice brown color. Here are three simple ways to toast them.

Oven
Spread nuts on a baking sheet in an even layer. Bake for 5-10 minutes at 350F, stirring once or twice, until browned. Check them frequently — set a timer if you need a reminder — to make sure they don’t burn.Take toasted nuts off the baking sheet immediately to stop them from toasting further.

Stovetop
Toasting nuts on the stovetop is faster and for me, safer. (I almost always forget them when I put them in the oven.) Place the nuts in a dry saute pan in an even layer. Heat them over medium heat, tossing frequently, until they’re golden brown.

Microwave
Spread nuts in an even layer on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave them for about 4 minutes, stirring them midway. Microwave power levels vary so check your nuts frequently to prevent burning.
