Caramel Apple Sauce

The season’s best flavors combine in this simple and versatile caramel sauce.
Caramel Apple Sauce
Makes about 2 cups of sauce.
½ cup sugar
¼ cup apple cider
1 cup heavy cream
Heat the sugar and apple cider in a small pot over medium high heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves and begins to caramelize. As soon as the sugar turns light golden brown, carefully pour in the heavy cream. (The caramel will bubble up, sizzle and harden when the cream is added.) Continue stirring until the caramel settles and is smooth and creamy, about a minute.
